Round 3 At The Championships

In a recent development at the Wimbledon 2006, Martina Hingis making her return to the Chanpionships suffered defeat against Ai Sugiyama of Japan. The top Japanese player seeded 18 pulled an upset by recovering in a losing position to advance to the fourth round after a 7-5. 3-6, 6-4 victory against Hingis. Fourth seed David Nalbandian also is now out of the Championships after being knocked out by Spanish player Fernando Verdasco in straight sets 7-6 (11-9), 7-6 (11-9), 6-2 in 2 hours and 47 minutes. James Blake lost to Max Mirnyi of Belarus 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 to reach the 4th round.

Classic Tennis in Round 2 of Wimbledon

June 29, Thursday, Spanish player Rafael Nadal showed his composure by surviving a possible upset in the 2nd round of Wimbledon 2006. Down by 2 sets Nadal fought back to take the following 3 sets to win against little-known qualifier Robert Kendrick of USA. After 3 hours and 41 minutes the score was 6-7 (4-7), 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5, 6-4. Many considered this as the first classic game in this Championship.
On center court Agassi delights the crowd with his easy victory against Andreas Seppi 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 and through to the third round.

Round 1 Results From Wimbledon

Tuesday, June 27, 2006. Andre Agassi appearing in his final and last championships beat Boris Pashanski 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 in round 1 today after 2 hours and 11 minutes of play. Roger Federer meanwhile broke Bjorn Borg's winning streak of 41 straight wins on grass when he defeated Richard Gasquet of France 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
In the ladies singles Martina Hingis finished her her rain-delayed first round match against Olga Savchuk, with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
